How this calculator works
It calculates your patio area and the surface area of one paver, divides to get the count, and adds 5% for cuts and breakage.
Worked example — a 12 ft × 10 ft patio with 8 × 4 in pavers:
120 sq ft ÷ 0.22 sq ft per paver × 1.05 = 540 pavers.

Don’t forget the base
A solid paver patio needs a 4–6 inch base of gravel plus an inch of sand underneath. Use the gravel and sand calculators for those layers.
Frequently asked questions
How many pavers do I need per square foot?
It depends on paver size — an 8×4 in paver covers about 0.22 sq ft, so roughly 4.5 per square foot.
How much extra for waste?
Add about 5%, or up to 10% for curved or diagonal patterns.
